Sustainable initiatives

In 2008, Strukton signed the Guiding Principles agreement as one of the co-initiators. In the construction sector, this agreement functions as the basis for a socially responsible procurement policy. By complying with the code of conduct, the commissioning construction company ensures that the project is implemented in a responsible, safe and sustainable way.

Het Nieuwe Draaien

Strukton Civiel is taking part in a pilot called Het Nieuwe Draaien, which is an initiative of Natuur & Milieu and BMWT to stimulate lower fuel consumption in mobile equipment. Het Nieuwe Draaien involves applying the experiences gained in the new Driving Practices campaign to construction equipment in a smart way. A huge amount of energy can be saved by operating building machines in a smarter way.

Green Deal Concrete Chain

Together with the Government, MVO Nederland and a large number of chain partners, Strukton has taken the initiative to make the entire concrete chain more sustainable in the long term. Many parties in the chain are affiliated to this initiative. In addition, Strukton has invested in a new development in which it is making green concrete by cleaning old railway ballast and processing it in prefab concrete.

Cradle-to-cradle concrete

In addition, together with chain parties Strukton is working on developing cradle-to-cradle concrete. This is where the concrete released during demolition activities is re-used in its entirety. We did this, for example, during the demolition of the old office towers of the Education Executive Agency and Regional Tax Office Groningen. Both the concrete granulate and the cement sand are being re-used in the new concrete for the new multi-storey car park close to the office building.

Sustainable supplier

ProRail, Rijkswaterstaat and more and more other clients are demanding that contractors publish data about their own CO2 emissions and the CO2 emissions of their suppliers. On the initiative of Strukton, Grontmij, Oranjewoud and Movares, a central database has been set up for this purpose, called ‘De Duurzame Leverancier’.

The site is intended as a platform and a tool for companies that want to demonstrably conduct sustainable business operations and actively stimulate their suppliers to supply sustainable products and conduct sustainable business operations.
