OV (public transport) chip gates

Strukton Prefab Beton is producing all of the concrete bases for the new system of access gates at sixteen stations along the Schiphol and Flevo lines. The project is named ET-BTS, which stands for ‘Electronic Ticketing – Beheerste Toegang Stations’ (Electronic Ticketing – Managed Station Access).  For Prefab Beton, the project comprises making special bases for the access gates to the platforms, and bases for ticket machines, camera surveillance systems and passenger information systems.

The new system will first be implemented at the stations along these two railway lines. Strukton Prefab Beton is now preparing to produce the concrete bases, while Strukton Bouw- en Vastgoed and Strukton Systems are preparing to place and install them respectively. Special demands are being placed on these new types of concrete bases. Because fibre-optic cables will be used, the insertion bends may be less sharp, while the bases and the insertion holes must have waterproof seals, and the boxes and bases must be ventilated. The Netherlands Railways (NS) project management department made the basic designs for the six different types of bases, which Prefab subsequently modified and developed to achieve the final designs and the production drawings. The ASK base was virtually completely designed by Prefab in consultation with NS. The special plug seal for waterproofing the cable insertion holes was one important point of departure.
