KOSMOS A16

The Department of Public Works (Rijkswaterstaat) has established that maintenance on the constructions in the Dutch road system can no longer be delayed. Consequently, the main infrastructure in the Netherlands is being subjected to major maintenance activities. During 2006, nine clusters – which go by the name of KOSMOS – were outsourced to private sector partners.

The construction partnership of Strukton Civiel Projecten, Rasenberg Wegenbouw and Ooms Construction was awarded the contract for one of the first clusters, Kosmos/A16. Contracting firm Colijn and subcontractor Rowij Bouwchemie are jointly responsible for the maintenance of the constructions. This project, Kosmos/A16, involves large-scale maintenance on the A16 main road, from the Terbregseplein junction to the Ridderkerk junction, as well as maintenance on 150 constructions in the Northern part of the province of South Holland.

The large-scale maintenance activities on the A16 main road involve both the main carriageways and dual carriageways, including the slip roads to and from the Van Brienenoordbrug (bridge).

Construction of the north-south lane began in 2006, from the Terbregseplein junction to the Ridderkerk junction. In 2007, this was followed by large-scale maintenance in the opposite direction, from the Ridderkerk junction to the Terbregseplein junction.
