Project

The platforms have glass coverings with integrated solar cells to generate energy for the escalators and lighting in the station. The platform coverings were commissioned by ProRail and designed by Benthem Crouwel Architekten and Movares, who also designed the new station hall. Besides positioning the platform coverings, Strukton also adapted the heights of the platforms for better access to the trains, constructed lift shafts and a new overhead cable structure, and worked on the foundation for the new station hall. These activities were part of the construction of the new Utrecht Central public transport terminal.
